Overview
Competency levels are used to describe the level of competency individuals have for performing a given test method. These competencies can be used to control the level of access the user has in regards to the test method.
Adding a Competency
- Select Tools → Administration → Manage Competency Levels in QESTLab.
- Click New Level (top left).
- Enter a Name for the new competency level.
Entering Competency Information
Information pertaining to the competency level can be entered in the right hand pane.
Competency Level Details
- Code: A unique identifier for the competency level.
- Name: The name of the competency level.
- Description: A description of the competency level.
- Grant Permissions:
- Read: Allow viewing of the given test method.
- Edit: Allow editing of the given test method.
- Add: Allow adding new instances of the given test method.
- Delete: Allow deleting instances of the given test method.
- Signatory: Allow signing of reports which include the given test method.
- Expires after: Specific a number of months the competency is valid for before it will need to be renewed.
Setting Competency Levels for People
- Select the People node from the QESTLab tree and search for the person to set competency levels for.
- Click on that person and select the Competency tab.
To set a competency for a test method:
- Select either Tests, Specimens or Sampling Methods.
- Search for the specific test method to set a competency level for.
- Select the competency level from the dropdown in the Competency column.
- An Expiry Date will automatically be set based on the configuration of the competency.
If the person is a user they will automatically be given permissions for this test method based on the configuration of the competency. A user's complete permissions can be seen on the Permissions Preview tab. The competency can be renewed by updating the Expiry Date on the Competency tab.
