Confirming Work Orders

This article describes the process for confirming work orders assigned using the QESTField Scheduler from both email and push notifications

Overview

The QESTField Scheduler allows dispatchers to assign work orders to field staff and subsequently send notifications to request that the assigned work orders be confirmed. Confirming the assigned work orders will communicate to the dispatcher that the assignments have been seen and agreed to.

Rejecting Work Orders

It is only possible to confirm work order assignments. If there is an issue with the assignment, it should not be confirmed but the dispatcher contacted directly so that it can instead be modified.

Receiving Notifications

Notifications requesting work order confirmation can arrive either as push notifications to a mobile device or as emails. Push notifications will only be received by a user if they:

  • Are using the QESTField mobile app, and
  • Are logged into the QESTField mobile app on their device, and
  • Have not disabled notifications for the QESTField mobile app via their device settings

If push notifications cannot be sent to an individual, QESTField Scheduler will send email notifications to the user instead.

Disabling Notifications

Please note that the QESTField app must be re-opened after enabling or disabling push notifications in the device settings for the change to take effect.

If push notifications are disabled on the device and the app is re-opened, notifications for the user will fall back to using email.

Push Notifications

Push notifications are received on the mobile device in one of two ways depending on whether the app is in active use at the time the notifications is received:

  1. If the app is not being actively used, the notification will appear on the device list.
  2. If the app is being actively used, the notification icon will show on the menu icon.

In both cases, the notification can always be reviewed at a later time in the app notification page.

Device List Notification

If the notification is issued while the app is not opened, the push notification will appear on the device list. The appearance of the notification will change depending on the device used.

Tapping on the notification will navigate to the QESTField app and, if there is not an active workflow in progress, navigate to the home page in order to allow work orders to be confirmed.

Menu Icon Notification

If the notification is issued while the app is opened, the Menu icon will change to indicate a new notification has been received.

The notifications page can be used to review the received notification when this occurs.

Notification Page

Received notifications can be reviewed on the Notifications page at any time.

Tapping on an active notification will, if there is not an active workflow in progress, navigate to the home page in order to allow work orders to be confirmed.

Email Notifications

Email notifications will arrive in the user's email client.

Clicking the provided link will navigate the user to the QESTField website, allowing them to log in and confirm assigned work orders.

Confirming Work Orders

Field staff members can confirm work on the Work Order & Tests page of the QESTField app or the home page of the QESTField website. First the field staff member must select the work date to be reviewed.

Work orders awaiting confirmation will be highlighted and a button will appear to confirm these work orders. Work can be reviewed in more detail by tapping the work order.

A work order can be confirmed if:

  • Work is assigned to the logged in user.
  • Work has not already been confirmed with the current work details.
  • Work is not scheduled in the past.
  • Field work has not been marked as complete or cancelled.

Tapping the "Confirm work orders" button will confirm all work orders currently visible.
