This article describes how to configure settings for License Usage Tracking and Logging

Contents

Overview

QEST Platform provides a number of features related to license usage monitoring. These tools assist administrators in better tracking license usage in order to ensure business continuity. Some configuration of these features is required, as described below. It is strongly recommended that the license monitoring and notification features are configured appropriately to ensure that organizations do not face situations where users cannot log into the various QEST Platform products due to limited licenses being available.

The License Usage settings are grouped into the following sections:

  • License Summary Email Settings: DEfines the details of the email that will be sent to system administrators if license usage is found to be close to, at, or exceeding the license limit for a QEST Platform product.
  • License Logging Settings: Defines the directories for where license logging files are stored and archived. These settings must be configured in order to allow QESTNet to correctly log information about license usage through the QEST Platform and be able to send warning emails.
  • License Usage Tracker Settings: Outlines how often the peak license usage is tracked in and outside of business hours.

License Summary Email Settings

The settings here are split into the Summary Email details and the Schedule.

The following properties can be set in this section:

  • From Address: The address that will be used as the from address for emails sent as part of the license summary email integrator.
  • Subject: The Subject of the email.
  • Body: The body of the email. Licensing details will follow this text in the email.
  • Recipients: Recipients of the license summary email.

The Schedule details define how often the license log files are reviewed and the summary email sent to the recipients (if required, as described in Checking License Use for QESTField Products).

  • Start Time: When the email integrator will start reviewing log files and sending license summary emails. The value is a time span with an expected format of (hh:mm:ss).
  • Recurrence: How often the email integrator will review log files and send license summary emails. The value is a time span with an expected format of (dd.hh:mm:ss).

License Logging Settings

These settings are necessary to allow QESTNet to log information about license usage. These files are then reviewed and compiled into the Summary Email if necessary (as described in Checking License Use for QESTField Products).

The following properties can be set in this section:

  • Log File Path: The location where license logging will be stored.
  • Archive File Path: The location where license logging will be moved once it has been reviewed.

Read/Write Permissions

The directories specified in the Log File Path as well as the Archive File Path must be created manually.

The service user running the QESTNet service will require read/write permissions to the Log File Path as well as the Archive File Path.

License Usage Tracker Settings

These settings define how often the peak license usage data will be captured.

The following properties can be set in this section:

  • Outside of Business Hours: How often the license usage will be tracked when outside of business hours. Setting this to a higher value will reduce the number of license usage records for out of business hours (defined as between 7am and 7pm on the server where the QESTNet service is running).
