QEST Platform 5.1 Documentation
Applies to QESTLab

This article describes how to add new equipment to the system.

Contents

Equipment Overview

All equipment in the QEST Platform is managed centrally through the Equipment node in the QESTLab tree. The Equipment node allows users to manage calibration schedules for each piece of equipment and (where available) configure direct connection between the piece of equipment and computers running QESTLab. Equipment created in this node can then be made available for selection within specific worksheets that allow equipment selection. This allows values associated with that item of equipment to be used in test calculations and flags tests where out of calibration equipment is used.

Adding Equipment

  1. Equipment can be added by selecting the equipment node from the tree and then clicking New Equipment.
  2. Select the equipment type by clicking on it.
  3. Equipment can be grouped. A freely entered text value determines which group the equipment is in and the groups are displayed in the navigation tree. Equipment groups are at the lowest level, breaking the list down by laboratory, equipment type and  groups within each type if required. Select a group for the particular equipment type or create a new group by typing in the Group field.
  4. Click OK and the new piece of equipment will be displayed at the bottom of the tree under the Equipment node.
  5. Enter the equipment information. Verify and Save changes. Once the tree has been refreshed (F5), the equipment will appear under the equipment type and group at the nominated laboratory.

Entering Equipment Information

Information pertaining to the equipment item can be entered in the right frame. The Equipment screen provides the ability to record information about the equipment, including identification, history and calibration information.

Equipment Information

Field Description
Code A unique code to identify the equipment.  The code is displayed in equipment drop down boxes on related worksheets and workflows in the system.  The code usually represents the identifier/name marked on a piece of equipment so lab and field users can easily recognize the item.

Date In-ServiceDate the piece of equipment was placed into service.
Not In ServiceIf this checkbox is ticked, reminders for this equipment's tasks will not be displayed and the equipment will not be available for selection on test screens.
Date ReceivedDate the piece of equipment was received in the laboratory.
Initial ConditionAllows the initial condition of the equipment to be recorded.
GroupGroups are used to break equipment types into more defined categories.

Additional Details

Calibrations and Checks, Calibration Values and Interface are covered in their respective documentation pages. Please note that both Calibration Values and Interface tabs will only be visible when they are required and they do not apply to all equipment types.

Consumable Equipment Items

There are some consumable items that, although not normally considered equipment, are more conveniently handled in QESTLab as if they are equipment items. These include:

  • Bulk Density Sand
  • Single Use Concrete Cylinder Molds
