Concrete Specimen Set Templates List

Concrete Specimen Set Templates List

Applies to QEST Web App

Using Concrete Specimen Set Templates in concrete testing simplifies and speeds up data entry. This article describes how to create templates and to use them and their associated list.

Contents

Overview

The list previously known as Concrete Test Groups in QESTLab, is now known as Concrete Specimen Set Templates in the QEST Web App (QWA).

Concrete Specimen Set Templates are a way to tie a specimen’s physical and testing information together.

Users unfamiliar with lists in the QWA are recommended to read the following article:

  • Some information can use a wider than normal grid to display values.

  • When using tablet devices, landscape orientation is recommended.

Concrete Specimen Set Templates

Concrete Specimen Set Templates contain pre-defined sets of cylinders, cubes, prisms or other specimen types that are created for specific laboratory testing as part of concrete sampling and field testing. The laboratory testing that is to be undertaken on the defined specimens is also pre-selected.

Long (Editable) Format

This format is seen when a template needs to be edited.

Short (Read-only) Format

This format is used in dropdown lists where a set template needs to be selected, as for example in the Specimens section of the Concrete Sample Document.

Using a Template

The purpose of a specimen set template is to construct a concrete specimen set. This is implemented when a set template is selected in the Specimens section of the Concrete Sample Document. (Concrete Sample Document for QEST Web App | Specimens).

Template Scope

Like lists entries in other lists, the availability of templates can vary between individual laboratories and is controlled by the scope of the individual templates. Lists for the QEST Web App | List Entry Scope

Storing Templates

Concrete Specimen Set Templates are stored in the Concrete Specimen Set Templates List (QID 20165).

The properties and behavior of this list is the same as other lists found in the QWA (see Lists for the QEST Web App ). However, the list entry items for Specimen Set Templates List are more complex than those found in most other lists.

This list can be found in the Reference menu, with the other concrete lists, in the Concrete Samples section.

Making Changes to the Template List

The process of changing this list is essentially the same as for other lists.

See Lists for the QEST Web App | Making Changes to Lists for a comparison.

The list can be changed by:

  • Adding new templates;

  • Editing existing templates;

  • Making existing templates inactive;

  • Deleting templates.

Users wishing to make changes to the list will need to have the appropriate permission for the changes.

Adding a Template

Adding a new template to the list is basically the same procedure as for other lists (see Lists for the QEST Web App | Adding a List Entry), but does require the extra step of setting the template properties after the template has been named, as described below.

Clicking the Add Entry button shows the dialog:

Adding a new list entry to the list creates a new template and adds the new name to the list.

However, the template itself is empty. Before it can be used, the new template needs to be edited (see below) to set its properties.

Editing a Template

Editing a template is essentially no different to editing any list entry - refer to Lists for the QEST Web App | Editing a List Entry. The main difference is that a template has more entry fields than other list entries.

Each template name in the list has an adjacent link to the contents of the template.

Once the template is opened, the appropriate properties can be added or changed:

  • Previously selected values for dropdown lists can be changed.

  • New laboratory tests and specimens can be added, and/or existing ones deleted.

  • The contents of text fields can be changed.

New Template

Editing a new template has four parts:

  1. Selecting values for Specimen Type, Sampling Method and Making and Curing Method from the appropriate dropdown lists;

  2. Selecting a Nominal Size, if required by the specimen type;

  3. Adding Laboratory Tests;

  4. Adding Specimens.

The template name can also be changed at this time, if required.

Laboratory Tests

Adding laboratory tests is a two step process where a test is first selected from a list of available tests and then added by clicking the Add button.

Further tests are added by repeating the process.

Unwanted tests can be removed by clicking the delete icon associated with the test.

Only One Destructive Test Allowed!

While multiple tests can be added to a template, each template should have only one destructive test. The selected destructive test should be one that matches the specimen type.

Specimens

Start by clicking the add button.

Fill in the required information.

Repeat for the required number of specimens for the set.

Deactivating or Deleting a Template

Templates can be deactivated and/or deleted in exactly the same way as other list entries.

See Lists for the QEST Web App | Deactivating or Deleting a List Entry for details.
