Concrete Specimen Receipt for QEST Web App
Applies to QEST Web App
When concrete specimens are brought from the work site to the laboratory, the details of the specimens need to be recorded. This article explains how the QEST Web App Concrete Specimen Receipt process is used to record information for concrete specimens.
Contents
Overview
When concrete specimens arrive at the laboratory, what happens next depends on whether the specimens belonging to a concrete sample have already been registered in the QEST Web App (QWA) or not.
A specimen has been registered when it has been recorded as belonging to a specimen set associated with a sample..
If the specimens have been registered, the Concrete Specimen Receipt process is used to record the date the specimens were received and the curing details of the specimens.
If the specimens, or sample, have not been registered, use the Sample Logging process to record the sample's details and/or register the specimens.
For more information, see the article: Concrete Sample Logging for QEST Web App .
Once the registration process is completed, the Concrete Specimen Receipt process can be applied to the specimens.
This worksheet contains a wide grid for some values.
When using tablet devices, landscape orientation will allow more of the grid to be shown at once.
Getting Started
The process for recording the receipt of concrete specimens is found in the Integrated Data Entry menu.
Note that if the Sample Logging process is required, it is found in the same menu.
Initial View
Initially, only the Find Specimens section is visible. This is used to find the concrete set that the required specimens belong to.
Once the correct laboratory is selected, the Set dropdown will contain a list of all the available sets of specimens, for that laboratory.
In a working laboratory, this list of sets will be quite large and easily finding the required set becomes difficult. The more information that can be added to the Find Specimens section, the shorter the list of sets will become, making the selection of the required set an easier task.
If the set selection is successful, a Set Details section and an embedded Making and Curing worksheet are added to the worksheet.
While the Set Details section has a standard format and has little, if any, variation in appearance, the details of the Making and Curing worksheet will change with the testing jurisdiction and test method that applies to the specimens. Find Specimen Details
Prompt | Behaviour/Description |
---|---|
Laboratory | A list of all non-global laboratories that the currently logged in user has access to. |
Client Sample ID | Free entry text. When the user enters text in this field, the list of available sets will be reduced to those which contain the entered text within their Client Sample ID field, even if it is a partial match. |
Project Code | A list of project codes of active projects available to the selected laboratory. This field is linked to the Project field. Selecting a project code will automatically populate the Project field and reduce the list of sets to those associated with the selected project. If the preferred laboratory feature is in use on the project list, this dropdown allows filtering by preferred lab. |
Project | A list of names of active projects available to the selected laboratory. This field is linked to the Project Code field. Selecting a project will automatically populate the Project Code field and reduce the list of sets to those associated with the selected project. If the preferred laboratory feature is in use on the project list, this dropdown allows filtering by preferred lab. Only one “Filter by preferred laboratory” checkbox is shown and affects both this field and the linked project code. |

Loading Set Details
Selecting a Set can actually be achieved in two ways:
Directly, by selecting a Set from the set list;
Indirectly, by selecting a mould ID from the list of available mould IDs.
In both cases, the size of each list will usually be too large to be used easily unless extra information is added to the Find Specimens section.
By Selecting a Set
The Set field contains a list of the sets known to be available for receipt.
When the user selects a set, the details of it will be loaded in the Set Details section and its Making & Curing worksheet will be embedded in the section after that.
If the user selects an entry from this list, the Mould field will be cleared and not used.
By Selecting a Mould
If the Set name is not known, but the mould ID is, this can be used to select the required Set.
The Mould field contains a list of the mould IDs known to be available for receipt. Alternatively, the user is also able to freely type in the required mould ID.
When the user selects, or enters, a mould ID, the details of the Set containing a specimen using this mould ID will be loaded in the Set Details section and its Making & Curing worksheet will be embedded in the section after that.
If such a set is not found, the user will be presented with a warning notice.
If the user selects or enters a value in this field the Set field will be cleared and not used.
Set Details
As stated previously, if the selection is successful, a Set Details section is added to the worksheet. This section is read-only and existing data cannot be changed there.
The Sample ID is a link to the Concrete Sample worksheet for the sample.
In addition to the section, an embedded Making and Curing worksheet is also added to the Concrete Specimen Receipt worksheet.
Once the Date Received and/or Curing Started fields on the Making and Curing worksheet have a value, the set name will no longer appear in the Set dropdown list. This means that the set cannot be accessed by the Concrete Specimen Receipt process again.
Making and Curing Embedded Worksheet
As mentioned above, the actual details of the embedded Making and Curing worksheet will change with the testing jurisdiction and test method that applies to the specimens.
Links to the available details of specific versions of the Making and Curing worksheet can be found in the article: Making and Curing Specimens in QEST Web App .
