Overview
The actual details of Making and Curing worksheets change with the testing jurisdiction and test method that applies to the specimens. Additionally when present in the embedded form, the contents of worksheets can also vary depending on the worksheet in which they are embedded. However, the general purpose of the different versions remains the same and there are common features.
This article provides information on using the Making and Curing embedded worksheet for test method BS EN 12390-2:2019, when specimens have been moulded from fresh concrete.
This worksheet contains a wide grid for some values.
When using tablet devices, landscape orientation will allow more of the grid to be shown at once.
Embedded Versions
There are two different versions of the BS EN 12390-2:2019 embedded worksheet:
As part of a Set, for example as in the Sample Document page.
For Concrete Specimen Receipt page.
General Description
The following commonalities occur between the versions of the BS EN worksheet.
Each embedded worksheet has a link provided to access the full version of the Making and Curing worksheet.
The embedded worksheet usually has two parts:
A general information area;
A grid for specimen set or curing information.
As Part of a Set
General Information
Calibrated Moulds
The Calibrated moulds used checkbox controls how the Mould Id fields, in the specimen curing area, work. For details refer to Mould ID, below.
Initial Curing Conditions
A dropdown listing the Curing Conditions list (20164) items that the laboratory, to which the parent sample belongs, has access to.
Selection | Action/Result |
---|---|
No action required | |
Adds selected curing condition text to the worksheet |
Specimen Information
Age in Hours
Selection | Action/Result |
---|---|
Default | No action required. |
Adds a new column that allows the user to select time units. Time calculations use the time units selected. |
Client ID
Selection | Action/Result |
---|---|
No action required. | |
Adds a new column that allows the user to record the client's, or sender's, identification markings for specimens. Up to 30 characters can be entered. |
Site Cured
Selection | Action/Result |
---|---|
Default | There are no visible results, however, to see what happens in the background, refer here for more information . If the checkbox is unticked after being ticked, the field, Site Cured Specimen Storage Location, is removed from the general information area. |
The only visible result is that an extra field, Site Cured Specimen Storage Location, is added to the general information area. To see what happens in the background, go here. |
Mould ID
If the Calibrated Moulds Used checkbox:
Has been ticked, the field will be a dropdown list of all available concrete specimen molds;
Has not been ticked, the field will be a free entry text field.
When changing from “ticked” to “unticked” any values present in the Mould ID fields will be retained and made free entry.
When changing from “unticked” to “ticked”, if a Mould ID has been entered for any specimen, a confirmation dialog will be shown to the user warning that the field will be cleared, if the action is completed.
If Made by Others is ticked, the field will be a free entry text field.
If a colored (not grey) border appears around the field after a selection has been made, it usually means that the selected mold does not have a current calibration that covers the work date.
For Concrete Specimen Receipt Page
Some additional functionality is present that is not present in the Set version as, for example, found on the Concrete Sample worksheet.
General Information
Initial Curing Conditions

Selection | Action/Result |

No action required | |
Adds selected curing condition text to the worksheet |
Initial Curing Temperature Range
The standard requires that the initial curing temperature range be recorded and, optionally, reported.
Most of the time, this temperature is recorded by automated logging equipment and the records from these are kept separately to the records pertaining to the specimens themselves. As a result, the recording of this information, as part of making the specimens, is optional.
Selection | Action/Result |
---|---|
No action required | |
Displays fields to record minimum and maximum temperatures encountered during initial curing |
Specimen Information
Specimen ID
Individual specimen IDs are links that navigate to the specimen level version of the Making and Curing worksheet. However, these do not contain much useful data because they are only used to house the logic necessary to calculate the specimen's curing duration.

Mould ID
If the Calibrated Moulds Used checkbox:
Has been ticked, the field will be a dropdown list of all available concrete specimen molds;
Has not been ticked, the field will be a free entry text field.
When changing from “ticked” to “unticked” any values present in the Mould ID fields will be retained and made free entry.

If Made by Others is ticked, the field will be a free entry text field.
If a colored (not grey) border appears around the field after a selection has been made, it usually means that the selected mold does not have a current calibration that covers the work date.
Curing Started
As discussed above, the value of this field is controlled by the status of the Site Cured checkbox.
Once this field has a value, the set name will no longer appear in the Set dropdown list with the result that the set cannot be accessed by the Concrete Specimen Receipt process again.
